We recorded the music before filming so we could have something to lip-sync to and record to. This one we had a few more musical numbers and a few more songs, so it happened really, really quickly to when I got signed on. MARANO: The incredible songwriters and producers for the film had worked on A Cinderella Story before this. How involved were you in the songwriting or the sound of the film?
Laura, you sing a lot in this film, and you’ve always been as much a singer as an actress.

I absolutely love having a movie that I can have families watch and have parents come up to me saying they really, really liked the character and they love watching with their kids. MARANO: What’s really cool about this movie is it is a family movie. It is pretty humbling to be part of a movie like this because there is fan base already there excited to watch whatever they’re about to put out. With that comes great responsibility, but also a huge fan base. SULKIN: We were given a platform at a young age and were able to work for the Disney brand. And a musical! So it was all three of my favorite things in one. It was a dream for me because not only am I playing a twist on the classic Cinderella, but it’s a Christmas movie, and I love Christmas. MARANO: I was maybe a little bit too much excited about it.

With your Disney roots, did you find it ironic or a fun twist to be taking on a fairy tale Disney made famous, but that has now received a modern update via Warner Bros.?
Wait till you get a load of Mr.In essence, you’re playing versions of Cinderella and her prince. The movie was well received by my twelve year old granddaughter, so if you need a recommendation to watch, there it is. The picture sort of stumbles along while fleshing out the classic Cinderella story, minus the glass slipper and a magic coach to whisk Cinderella and her Prince Charming away. Their characters are written as almost too over the top, and one's instinct whenever any of them has something to say is to resort to an eye roll and a groan. However her stepmother and stepsisters are nothing short of hysterical, and I don't necessarily mean hysterical as being funny, but more so in a distressing way. Anyway, the movie best serves a pre-teen audience with it's take on striving to reach one's potential, as Kat Decker (Laura Marano) tries to live her dream of writing and singing songs. Hard to explain, but it didn't sound natural. But even while watching the film, I had the feeling something wasn't quite right with the musical numbers because they just sounded manufactured, if you get what I'm trying to say.

It refers to the use of computer software to correct an out-of-tune vocal performance. So many reviews of this movie here on IMDb mention the fact that the singing was 'autotuned' that I had to look it up I never heard the term before.

Overall, I rate this movie as a Twinkie: prepackaged, overprocessed, full of saccharine fluff, and memorable only for how bad it was. I hope for their sake that face blindness isn't contagious in their universe. No mask, no fake nose, no disguising makeup- everyone can see her face plain as day. Magoo and apparently neither can his friends because they don't make the connection until she loses her hat and wig. He can't recognize his Starbucks barista in an elf getup that wouldn't fool Mr. Seriously, this is a thing in this movie. The "prince" can't tell who "Cinderella" is because she wears elf ears, a hat, and a pink wig.
Using a snow globe to prove your identity? Joy wears a dress tailored to fit Kat, who is at least 6" shorter than her? And who gets a "only two of these exist" gold bracelet on an expedition to the North Pole? But the best is.ĥ. The common sense and logical errors are comically bad. Even Jane Lynch's portrayal was better.Ĥ. This is not Angelica Huston's or Care Blanchett's "Stepmother", and the stepsisters are utterly forgettable. The "steps" come off as idiotic and predictable, not cruel and conniving, and definitely not funny. The aside from the lead character and her friend, the acting is way overdone.ģ. This movie was so bad that my wife, who loves the sappiest Christmas movies, fast-forwarded thru most of this one.
